The Arend Maartenshof is a hofje in the South Holland town of Dordrecht. Built in 1625, the hofje was named after its founder Arend Maartenszoon. He was known as a money-grubber and tried to improve his reputation by building 38 houses for poor women. By founding this hofje, the namesake hoped to ease his conscience. Indeed, Arend Maartenszoon had long been more interested in amassing as much money as possible than caring about his fellow man. A bad reputation among his fellow citizens and the church was the result of his greedy attitude.
