Devata is a collective name for divine or heavenly (female) figures. They are often sculpted in the walls and at entrances. You can find them in both Hinduism and Buddhism. They are creatures that live on a higher level of existence than humans. The devata includes angels as well as gods like God and Brahma.
Beautifully decorated temple Banteay Srei, Cambodia. This temple from the 10th century is built of red sandstone and dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Also called precious gem and pearl of Khmer art.
The walls are sculpted in detail with bass reliefs and tell stories from the history of Cambodia.
