Dead wood as food for the soil in which it grew and in the decay process a temporary home and food for insects, fungi and moulds. The photo is rich in detail, the subsurface of flakes, has deliberately been kept out of focus. In the process of dying off the wood has become almost monochrome in color. Only the core of the wood still has a glimpse of color that shows recent life.
