About "Dead sea"

by Antwan Janssen

About the artwork

Located at the lowest point on earth, the Dead Sea is a unique natural wonder that forms the border between Jordan and Israel. What makes this sea so special is its extremely high salt content, which gives the water an extraordinary density and allows people to float effortlessly.

This unique feature has made the Dead Sea a well-known destination for wellness and healing. The mud and minerals of the Dead Sea have been praised for centuries for their therapeutic properties, used for skin care and medical treatments.

Besides its healing properties, the Dead Sea is also steeped in history and mythology. It is believed to be the location of the biblical cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, and played a prominent role in ancient civilisations such as those of the Egyptians and Romans.

However, the Dead Sea faces serious threats such as shrinking water levels and environmental pollution, threatening its unique ecosystems. Nevertheless, the Dead Sea remains a fascinating destination for travellers from all over the world, who are attracted by its extraordinary beauty, historical significance and therapeutic powers.
