As a resident of Amersfoort, I have seen the Koppelpoort for years, yet this place manages to touch me every time. On a clear day, I decided to take my camera and capture the gate as I experience it myself: imposing, full of character and fully embedded in the soul of the city. The sun was high, creating sharp lines, vibrant colours and beautiful shadows that highlighted the structure of the old masonry. What makes Koppelpoort so special to me is not only the architecture - a unique combination of land and water gate - but also the place itself: on the water, overlooking the city and a tranquillity that makes you pause in the middle of a busy day. It is one of those places where history and everyday life blend effortlessly. This photo is my ode to a city that I know through and through, yet continues to surprise me.
