What do charcoal drawings, photoshop and 3D drawing on the computer have to do with each other? Not that much you might think. Yet these are the tools used to produce this particular mixed media painting.
You see a dancing couple moving gracefully between the steel columns of a steel factory.
How did this work come about;
The basis of this work is a simple charcoal drawing. I used charcoal on watercolour paper to draw the dancing couple. Watercolour paper has a nice texture that comes out well when you draw on it with charcoal. I loaded this drawing into the computer. In photoshop, I then coloured the background with different brushes. I used blue, yellow and grey shades. I then drew the honeycomb columns in 3D using Cinema 4D. I added the black and white render of a perspective that matched the dancers as an extra layer to photoshop.
The result is a semi-abstract mixed media artwork bursting with textures and interesting details. The work has a resolution of a whopping 5088x7633 pixels. That makes this work very suitable for a large-format print.
