A kind of erotic dance inspired by the legend of the goddess Ishtar and in the biblical passage of the beheading of John the Baptist is called the dance of the seven veils.
The rapid adaptation to western cabaret as a dance of an erotic nature facilitated its development as a striptease in which the dancers presented an image of related sexual desire.
According to the Babylonian myth, Ishtar, completely naked, was able to enter eternity and save her lover. But Ereshkigal regretted letting her in and forbade her to leave immediately.
