Damrak is the main street that leads from Central Station to Dam Square. The street name refers to the dam in the river Amstel and "rak, " an old Dutch term for straight. It's one of the first areas of the city visitors see when they leave Central Station.
In stark contrast to the tourist trap restaurants, gift shops, and museums, are these beautiful canal houses nestled tightly together. These buildings represent classic Dutch architecture, and the colored bricks reflecting off the water make for a beautiful sight.
