The fallow deer (Dama dama) is a medium-sized deer species native to the Mediterranean region and Asia Minor. They have since been successfully introduced in many parts of Europe, including the Netherlands. Fallow deer live mainly in deciduous forests, mixed forests and dune areas, where they feed on grass, leaves, buds and bark. These animals are known for their beautiful, hoe-shaped antlers worn by males.
