This is the crown coral. This is also a mushroom, but different from what we are used to. A mushroom is a fruiting body for the species to reproduce. This species has no stem and cap, but long twigs and stalks growing parallel to each other, culminating in a crown. It looks a bit like a candlestick and grows on lying dead wood, especially poplar. It belongs to the fungi.
The crown knot fungus is common in the Netherlands and in all temperate zones of the northern hemisphere. This variety is not endangered.
