And they are famous for Milka chocolate. I am of course talking about the beautiful herds of cows of the Swiss and Austrian Alps. Always you come across them when you go into the mountains. They are friendly curious animals that are easy to photograph, photogenic and have stolen the hearts of many people. I gave this photo a moody treatment to make it suitable for most interiors.
Cows in the Swiss Alps are an iconic and indispensable part of the landscape. They graze on the vast, green mountain pastures, often at high altitudes, where they enjoy the rich, natural grass. These animals are important to Swiss culture and economy, mainly because of the production of milk used for famous cheeses such as Gruyère and Emmental. The sound of cow bells hanging around their necks adds to the peaceful atmosphere of the Alps. These bells help shepherds find their herds back in the vast mountain landscape. The summer period, when the cows migrate to the high alpine pastures, is known as "Alpaufzug" and is often celebrated with colourful festivals. The strong bond between the Swiss and their livestock is deeply rooted in the country's traditions and history, and the cows symbolise the peaceful, agricultural life of the Swiss Alps.
