Cormorant.Cormorant.The cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo), also called plaice, plaice, schoolgoose, water count or cabbage goose, is a fairly large and striking bird. The Western European cormorant belongs to the family of cormorants (Phalacrocoracidae), of which 26 to 42 species are known (depending on the source consulted). They are all fairly large waterfowl, which mainly live on fish. They form their own clade with the gannets, frigate birds and snake necks.
