1924
This abstract composition is one of the earliest prints by the Groningen printer Hendrick Werkman. For his 'druksels', as he called them, he used typesetting material from his workshop and cut-out stencils. By stamping these in various colours and compositions, he created works with a very personal and unique character. During the Second World War, Werkman used his printing as a form of spiritual resistance against the occupying forces and paid for it with his death.
