Common seal resting at the Uitwatering in Katwijk aan Zee. Seals can often be found at this location.
They hunt there because there are lots of fish to catch and they occasionally come to rest on the shore of the Uitwatering.
Another species of seal also lives there. The grey seal, also called Cone seal because of the shape of its head.
Surely, the difference between the common seal and the grey seal is the head. The common seal has a round shape, with a kink between snout and forehead (just like a dog's). The grey seal has an elongated head (cone) and the snout and forehead are in a straight line.
Always keep an appropriate distance from seals. They are and remain sea predators even though they have cute faces.
My photo's were taken with a 600 mm telephoto lens so shot at a great distance 'shot'
