Colourful image of the Willemstunnel and traffic in Arnhem.
The Willem tunnel is a tunnel for motorized traffic in the center of the Dutch city of Arnhem and was built in the year 2000. The tunnel was built after the development of the Arnhem Centraal plan. These plans included making the traffic in the ring around the center of Arnhem one way. The tunnel is therefore only in one direction. In the middle is an underground junction with access to the parking garage of Arnhem Central Station. The total tunnel length is about 400 meters of which 100 meters covered. The tunnel starts at Willemsplein, goes under Nieuwe Plein and ends at Roermondsplein. The tunnel is regularly in the regional news because of accidents.
