Cologne Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, shines in new splendour in the evening. After a period of darkness due to the energy crisis, the cathedral's lighting has been converted to energy-saving LED spotlights. This measure means that Cologne's landmark can now shine outwards again, saving 50 to 70 per cent of electricity. The cathedral's lighting is now switched on and off with the street lighting, depending on dusk and dawn, without fixed times. In this way, Cologne Cathedral remains a shining symbol of hope and confidence in the city.
