The Muiderslot is a medieval castle in the North-Holland town of Muiden, built around 1285, restored in 1370 and a national museum since 1878. The castle is a square water castle. On each corner of the castle is a round tower and within the walls is a large building with stepped gables. The castle has a moat with a drawbridge.
Muiden is a small fortified town in the Dutch province of North Holland, belonging to the municipality of Gooise Meren.
In the disaster year of 1672, several hostile armies headed for Amsterdam. Naarden fell into enemy hands on 19 June, but in front of Muiden the enemy was stopped, partly due to the inundation of the area between Muiden and Gorkum.
