The Siege of Alkmaar was the siege of the city of Alkmaar during the Eighty Years' War by the Army of Flanders (the Spanish). The siege lasted from 21 August to 8 October 1573 and ended in a revolt: the royal Spanish army was forced to abandon the siege after William of Orange ordered the dikes around Alkmaar to be breached.
