A well-known saying in photography is: if the picture is not interesting, you were not close enough. This close-up shows that, indeed the ordinary becomes more interesting when you are closer to it. You can count the feathers and in the bird's eye you can see the surroundings reflected.
The sparrow looks straight into the lens, making eye contact, though it seems a casual glance. The little animal is alert, but entirely at ease. But sitting quietly still rarely lasts longer than a few seconds for sparrows, as they fly off and on. Usually busy twittering.
