The Claus power station is a power station in Maasbracht, near Roermond. It is one of the largest gas-fired power stations in the Netherlands. The Claus power station is the first supercritical power station in the Netherlands. As a result of the fall in the price of electricity and natural gas as a relatively expensive fuel (compared to coal), this power station was out of operation for many years and will be restarted in 2020. The power station will be used in start/stop operation to cope with changes in electricity production and demand, for example in the event of reduced generation of solar or wind energy.
