The Claus power plant is a power plant in Maasbracht, near Roermond. It is one of the largest gas-fired power plants in the Netherlands. The Claus power plant is the first supercritical power plant in the Netherlands.[1] Due to the fall in electricity prices and natural gas as a relatively expensive fuel (compared to coal), this power plant was idle for many years, in 2020 it was restarted. The plant has been used as a start/stop operation to cope with fluctuations in electricity production and demand, for example when solar or wind power generation is reduced.
