Xi'an is a city in China. It is the capital of Shaanxi province. It was once the capital of China. Xi'an is the eastern terminus of the Silk Road and lies on the Wei he river. In ancient times it was called Chang'an, which means "long peace." During the Tang Dynasty it was the capital of China with a population of 1 million inhabitants on an area of 84 km², making it the largest city on earth.
