About ‘Church window in Ablain-St Nazaire’ by George van der Vliet
In Ablain St Nazaire stands the ruins of a church destroyed during WWI. The picture of the remains of a window has been transformed into this image via an editing programme. The image is in fact an ornament that honours the past and at the same time depicts impermanence and destruction.

My name is George vd Vliet. Photography I have been doing for many years, I work mostly in landscape, historical places and underwater. I have studied history and taught in high schools.
What inspires me is the light and lines in the landscape, the silent world under water and the way I can incorporate it in my photographs.
