About ‘Church in Vignory, France’ by anne droogsma

The Church of Saint-Étienne, which is dominated by the castle of the Lords of Vignory, was built at the beginning of the 11th century by Gui I de Vignory and consecrated around 1050 by his son Roger I. Roger I appropriated the lands of Vignory, which had been owned by Luxeuil Abbey since the time of Charlemagne (768–814), and dedicated the new church to Saint Bénigne of Dijon.

Saint-Etienne Church is a significant example of pre-Romanesque architecture in France, with its roof structure now visible, its three-storey nave featuring a triforium with capitals bearing primitive carvings, and its choir within the ambulatory.

The bell tower was built in the mid-12th century and the side chapels between the 14th and 16th centuries. The side chapels house a large number of medieval statues, including several from the 15th-century sculptor’s workshop known as ‘ "de Vignory-Joinville" ’, as well as 14th- and 15th-century tombstones.

The tabernacle and the pulpit, attributed to Jean-Baptiste Bouchardon, enrich the Church of Saint-Etienne with 18th-century works. The church was listed as a historic monument in 1846 and restored between 1844 and 1860 on the recommendation of Prosper Mérimée.

It forms part of the Vignory heritage trail, which was created in 2008.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
