The Tanka, also called Danjia, are a Han Chinese people who live on boats. They originally lived in Guangdong and Fujian, but the dialect they speak, the Danjiahua is a Cantonese dialect. Later they spread out and now live in the provinces of Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Hainan and in parts of Vietnam. They make their living mainly from fishing and live on boats or in villages with p'aang oks. The Tanka should not be confused with another Chinese fishing people: the Hoklo.
