I discovered this picturesque little fishing village near Acireale during my extended Easter trip in the midday hours on 23 March 2013.
The photographic, maritime nature shot was taken with the NIKON D90 camera model (lens: NIKKOR 85.0 mm f/1.8).
Acireale is located 20 kilometres north of Catania, with jobs in food production, tourism and quarries.
Acireale has a motorway connection to the A18 / E45. Acireale railway station is on the Messina-Siracusa line.
The districts (fractions) are Santa Maria La Scala, Santa Tecla, Stazzo, S.M.Ammalati, Guardia, Mangano, Capomulini, S.Cosmo, Balatelle, Pennisi, Fiandaca, Loreto, Piano d'Api, Aciplatani, Scillichenti, S.Caterina, S.M.delle Grazie, S.M.la Stella and S.G.Bosco.
The neighbouring municipalities are Aci Castello, Aci Catena, Aci Sant'Antonio, Giarre, Riposto, Santa Venerina and Zafferana Etnea.
The municipality was created in the 14th century by an influx of inhabitants from the coastal towns, as its location offered better protection from pirate attacks. The Greek city of Xiphonia, founded in 731 BC, stood on the site of today's town. The name Acireale was given by Philip IV, King of Spain, in 1642. The town was destroyed in the earthquake of 1693 and then rebuilt.
On 27 June 1844, the diocese of Acireale was established by Pope Gregory XVI.
In the first decades of the 20th century, the town experienced strong growth.
"For me, photography feels like really capturing the moment - like a kind of alchemy where time is physically captured."
