As night falls, daylight in Ghent not only gives way to artificial light. But also for light art. At dusk, streets, squares and buildings are artistically enveloped in light and atmosphere. As if the entire city of Artevelde is preparing for theatre. A wonderful spectacle. Discover Ghent Illuminated and immerse yourself in this wonderful experience during the Light Plan walk! The Ghent Lighting Plan has its origins in 1998. The starting point is to illuminate the city sustainably and use energy rationally. At the same time, it transforms Ghent's city centre into a magical nocturnal landscape of light and shadow. Architectural accents, streets, monuments and squares are highlighted in an aesthetic manner. Environmentally aware lighting and beauty go hand in hand in Ghent. Brilliant, isn't it? You are stimulated and guided by the play of atmospheric light. And you rediscover the city at night in a completely different way! With its pioneering role in integrated city lighting and illumination, the city received many awards and fame on a global scale! To highlight its award-winning light show, every three years the city organises the Ghent Light Festival. Hundreds of thousands of visitors descend on Ghent from all over the country and far beyond. For almost 35 dazzling light installations are set up throughout the city along a stretch of about 7 kilometres. These works of art are partly built by citizens of Ghent. For the other installations, international light artists will be given a platform. During the interactive route, you will go from one surprise to the next!
