Together with a friend, I left for this city for five days to take photos. I had visited Paris once before, but that was before my photography days. So it was high time to explore the city again, this time with my camera in hand.
Beforehand, we had compiled a list of locations we absolutely wanted to capture. Of course, the Champs-Élysées could not be missing from that list. The biggest obstacle in Paris - and especially in this place - is the huge crowds. This is why we chose to shoot at night with a long shutter speed. That way it was already a bit quieter on the streets and I mainly had to deal with the traffic rushing by.
We arrived at the location well in time, partly to catch the sunset, but also to find a nice composition. For this photo, we opted for an ultra-wide-angle lens. This allowed us to capture the lamppost in the foreground, with the Champs-Élysées behind it as a powerful backdrop.
I did the post-processing, as I usually do, at home behind my desktop. I decided to remove all colours except red. The traces of light from the traffic create dynamics and - in my eyes - really add something extra to the otherwise monochrome atmosphere of the image.
