Spitzweg loved scenes in this picturesque corner of Munich's old town, away from the noise and crowds of the people. Later in life he had an apartment and studio in this area. The old bachelor got up early to water the flowers in his roof garden. The time on St. Peter's church clock on the left background is seven o'clock. Munich's oldest parish church, also known as "Old Peter", is located near Marienplatz. The morning sun gives her a warm light and thanks to the loving care of the bachelor the plants bloom.
