Reed sheds in the Weerribben
In the vast reed beds of National Park Weerribben-Wieden, these traditionally shaped reed sheds form a timeless image.
After harvesting in the winter months, the reeds are set up to dry in this characteristic manner, a centuries-old tradition that defines the cultural landscape of this special wetland. Against the dramatic cloudy sky, the golden bundles stand out sharply, a harmonious connection between human craft and natural beauty.
Known for its excellent quality, Weerribben reed is still used to cover traditional thatched roofs. These sheaves represent not only a sustainable form of nature management, but also the survival of a craft passed on for generations in this unique Dutch landscape.
