In the outskirts of the South Holland village of Numansdorp near the Veerweg, a row of trees has been candelabrummed. Candling is a little-used and rather drastic pruning technique in which only the trunk and thick branch stumps remain. The shape of the remaining section looks a bit like a candlestick. A permit from the local municipality is often required. The photo was taken on a sunny morning in autumn. Next to the dike on the right is the Hollands Diep.
