When I was 20, I saw the Cote d'Azur.
It was a revelation for me.
From then on, I wanted to tell
about the beauty of this south.

I began to paint pictures. I wanted them to be cheerful and warm.
So warm, that was my intention,
that I was tempted to take off my shirt.

I have been working on my painting for half a lifetime now.

"Essence of the European Mediterranean".

This painting is part of it.

Thin-layer pastel means: There is only one single layer of chalk.
You could also say: it's a great painting.
It's nice and quick,
but you can't correct anything.
Example: The chimneys have to be painted first
- then the roof.

E. Degas is the opposite.
He painted five to eight layers
and more on top of each other.
That's why his paintings are difficult to forge.
