Cairns can be found in Iceland or in the Himalayas; they show travelers the way through rugged landscapes. But they can also be spotted in other places, like here in the floodplains near Nijmegen. This picture was taken on a cold but sunny morning in January on the island of Veur-Lent between the Waal and Mirror Waal. The balancing of the stones, the thin layer of snow, the framing by the new city bridge the Crossing and the interaction of the power lines with the slope in the terrain make this a fascinating picture.
