About ‘Café in Schnoor Lane’ by NatureFrameByExter

The Schnoor district is one of Bremen’s oldest surviving neighbourhoods and takes you back to the Middle Ages. The name ‘Schnoor’ is derived from the Low German word for ‘string’, a reference to the way in which the small houses used to stand close together, like a string, along the narrow streets. The neighbourhood was founded around the 13th century and was originally home to craftsmen, fishermen and small traders.

The characteristic half-timbered houses and narrow alleyways tell the story of old Bremen. Some of the houses are hundreds of years old and have been carefully restored, preserving the historic atmosphere. Today, you’ll find cosy cafés, small shops, restaurants and galleries here.

Amidst the centuries-old façades, you can enjoy a cup of coffee whilst soaking up the history of Bremen all around you. The combination of medieval architecture, winding streets and a modern, cosy atmosphere makes the Schnoor one of Bremen’s most special places.
