Beautiful classic CITROËN DI7BCC DSPECIAL, 1975.
The Citroën DS rolled off the assembly line from 1955 to 1975. During these twenty years, the French carmaker installed new engines each time. This resulted in a wide choice when it came to motorisation. At the start of production in 1955, the DS was available with a 1.9-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 75 hp. Thanks to the high efficiency of the engine, the DS reached a maximum speed of up to 140 kilometres per hour. Driving performance could be compared to the six-cylinder engines of the time, so Citroën was clearly ahead of the competition by then.
Over the years, however, even better engines with more power and effective technologies followed. These were completely in step with the times and were constantly being adapted to customers' needs. The 1965 120 hp four-cylinder, which reached a top speed of 185 km/h, was considered particularly powerful. The Citroën ID, the cheaper and simpler variant, was also equipped with several engines with power ranging from 60 to 104 hp. Customers particularly appreciated its very high reliability and at the same time its low consumption, which was also due to the aerodynamic shape of the bodywork.
The Citroën DS features front-wheel drive. The engine chosen also determines the transmissions available for the model. Among others, the vehicle is available with a 4-speed manual or a 5-speed manual transmission.
