The Rabenauer Grund is a valley of the Rote Weisseritz carved up to 80 meters deep in the eastern Ore Mountains southwest of Rabenau in Saxony. It has been under nature protection since 1961.
Christian Friedrich Gille (March 20, 1805 in Ballenstedt am Harz, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany; July 9, 1899 in Wahnsdorf near Dresden, Meissen district in Saxony) was a German painter, draftsman, etcher and lithographer.
Because his impressionistic paintings, practiced through nature studies, were ahead of their time, Gille's work was not appreciated until after his death.
