About "CAPE OF GOOD HOPE"

About the artwork

In the work and miniature world 'KAAP DE GOEDE HOOP' I allow worlds to converge and flow in a layered collage. On the one hand, through the art forms used such as watercolour, photography and digital technology, on the other, there are the worlds, skies, heavens and seas that have crossed and passed in all possible forms, whether emotional, spiritual or physical. Yet again and again, the big comes together and spills over into the precious because fragile small as just that colour, that incidence of light, depth or shape in which circles may again become round. Here again, inaudibly silent, private worlds are hidden behind the visible, seemingly mundane of a familiar horizon.
And those who look and listen attentively hear and see the silent depth in the echo of silence, even if the sea is turbulent and rough. That is why a person can also be awash with waves of melancholy in a paradoxical longing back to other times when freedom was not a given and when one had to fight to make it to the end of the day at all.
It is being able to hear and see in the storm and wave valley the beauty and fragility of light along the breaking wave tops.
Consequently, it is also being able to be an imagination of Psalm 23.
