The buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a medium to large bird of prey in the hawk family. The scientific name of the species was published as Falco buteo in 1758 by Carl Linnaeus. It usually hunts in open country, but nests on forest edges. Normally its prey consists mainly of small mammals, amphibians (such as frogs) and small birds, but it is also occasionally a scavenger.
