A bulb field is a by-product of flower bulb cultivation that attracts numerous foreign tourists in the Netherlands.
A bulb field is a field on which bulb crops (initially only tulips) are grown commercially. After the bulbs have blossomed, they are headed. The bulbs are then harvested and exported all over the world, where they are planted by the buyers in their own garden.
The first bulb fields emerged from the second half of the 19th century in the present Bulb region. Even today, most bulb fields can still be found in the Bollenstreek and the north of the province of Noord-Holland, but also elsewhere in the country, for example near Venlo, on Texel, in the northwest of the province of Friesland, in the Noordoostpolder and bulb fields can be found on the Zeeland and South Holland islands.
