As an artist, I am always fascinated by the dynamics of urban landscapes and the changes taking place there. One of my recent works is a black-and-white fine art photograph called "Building the Kop van Zuid", in which I have captured the construction work on the Kop van Zuid in Rotterdam.
For this photograph, I used a slow shutter speed, blurring the sky and giving it an almost painterly effect. This creates a sense of movement and energy in the image. The tall buildings of Kop van Zuid stand proudly in the frame, while a few cranes add a dynamic element to the composition.
By choosing black and white, I focused on the shapes, contrasts and textures in the photo. The high contrast between the dark buildings and the bright sky creates a powerful visual effect. Removing colour helps to bring out the essence of the subject and emphasise the architectural elements and atmosphere of the construction site.
With "Building the Kop van Zuid" I wanted to find the beauty in the process of construction and growth. It is a tribute to the human strength and creativity behind this impressive urban development. At the same time, it invites the viewer to reflect on the constant changes in our urban environment and their impact on our daily lives.
I hope this black-and-white fine art photograph inspires you, the viewer, to look at the urban environment with a different perspective and discover the beauty in the construction work and changes taking place.
