About "Bright red field of corn poppies in the Barnim district"

by Silva Wischeropp

About the artwork

The magnificent spring meadow was taken with the Nikon D800 on 12 June 2023 in the Barnim district.
The landscapes in the Barnim district are young, no older than 20,000 years. People have been living in them for thousands of years. In the beginning there were only a few, first gathering and hunting, later farming and raising livestock. For centuries, we humans have been increasingly changing the natural character and creating cultural landscapes through more intensive use and new technical possibilities.
Landscapes can be distinguished from one another by their features. Sometimes it is easy to recognise boundaries, such as between the Oderbruch and the Barnimplatte on the large scale, or the moor and the neighbouring sandy area on the small scale. Landscapes can also be demarcated by their predominant use: farmland, woodland, settlement areas. Often, different types of landscapes interlock closely, forming mosaics. In this case, boundaries are more difficult to perceive. Both the natural and the artificial characteristics of the landscapes determine the diversity of life in the Barnim today.
