In Zeeland, you will find many breakwaters near the beach and the Westerschelde. This breakwater runs into the waters of the Westerschelde at Vlissingen. Again, it is quite a structure: two rows of piles with cross beams between them. In the process, this breakwater was built over a breakwater of basalt boulders. At the end is a beacon for shipping. This is extremely important here, because the large ships pass very close to the coast.
