This breakwater is located at the seashore near Domburg and is a typical form of coastal defense in the Dutch province of Zeeland and is called "Paalhoofden".
Most of them are constructed from a long, double row of poles wich go up to 14 meters / 45 feet deep into the ground. Because of the strong current a stone breakwater would be counterproductive . When the water can go through the poles, the flow is being curbed, but soil is not washed away.
