Botanical softness: The simplicity of a fluffy ball by Marjolijn van den Berg

"Botanische zachtheid: De eenvoud van een pluizenbol" This is a macro photograph of a beautiful fluffy seed head of a Tragopogon (in the Netherlands, this plant is also known as ‘Morgenster’). The plant is related to the dandelion and, just like the dandelion, produces a fluffy seed head once the flower has finished blooming (so that the seeds can be dispersed by the wind).
When taking this photograph, I chose to keep the depth of field relatively shallow. This creates a sense of depth in the photograph, as well as a dreamlike atmosphere. This dreamlike atmosphere is enhanced by the smoke hanging behind and partly within the ‘Morgenster’.
I use smoke a lot in my photo's, sometimes to create a soft, dreamy atmosphere and sometimes as a distinct part of the subject or narrative within the photo. I have therefore spent a great deal of time experimenting with smoke, so that I can use it at just the right thickness, with the right currents, or even when it is completely still.
Thanks to its tranquil atmosphere and soft tones, this photograph would suit many different interiors as wall art. From rustic to modern, from minimalist to Scandinavian interiors.
You could, for example, hang this piece above your bed on an ArtFrame, in the hall as an eye-catcher on wallpaper, or above the sofa on aluminium. It would also look stunning in business spaces such as a waiting room, meeting room or office!
