A rose-ringed parakeet at a peanut silo in the garden. In winter, I hang bird food in the garden. The garden bird have no worms to live on, and with bird food they have an alternative to get through the cold winter months. They really flock to it. This rose-ringed parakeet is part of a larger group around here, but I have never seen them in the garden. Since I put bird food on, I do see them. Then they hang from the seed and peanut silos. rose-ringed parakeet, apart from their bright green colour, can be recognised by a red bill. Males have a pink band around the neck that is black at the throat. In females, that band is absent. This is a female I think. They can make a lot of noise. The rose-ringed parakeet is a parrot-like bird from tropical Africa and Asia, and were once introduced as an aviary bird, but some managed to escape and survive here. They are therefore an exotic species.
