The blue bell-shaped flowers of the wild hyacinth, also known as the wood hyacinth, sparkle among the white trunks of the birch in spring.
The wild hyacinth is found in broad areas of Europe in deciduous forests and estates. This picture was taken in the south of Ireland in the city of Cork. In front of castle-like building that housed the prison Cork City Gaol is a small field of birch trees where these hyacinths bloom lushly every year.
