The structure of wood really appeals to me. Trees appeal to my imagination. During walks in the woods, I see all kinds of things. So my camera is always with me. After a heavy summer storm, many trees were blown down and then sawn into pieces to be taken away.
I then took photos of these sawn-off trees. The small dark round circles, like faces of figures combined with the structure of the wood in dark and light tessellations caught my imagination.
To avoid using the standard colours of wood, in post-processing I started playing with the different possibilities like adding or omitting light, dark, warm or cool tones etc. These dark blue, black and soft grey tones ended up creating this cool image.
I like that different textures are visible. The layering makes it look like it was painted, which also appeals to me. And I see figures that are close and next to each other,
Nature as inspiration, where curiosity about structure and line play in wood brings the sculpture to life....
