These blue wooden boat piles are at the ferry port on Lago Trasimeno at Castiglione del Lago, Perugia, Umbria. There are three islands on the lake, Isola Polvese, Isola Maggiore, Isola Minore and there are regular ferry services that criss cross the lake stopping at various towns on the lake and, of course, at Castiglione del Lago. Lago Trasimeno is the largest lake in the centre and south of Italy and many of its shores are covered in reed beds, which local craftsmen use to create beautiful reed umbrellas and screens. Wildlife is abundant around the lake. Here the lake surface looks calm and there are reflections of the trees on the boat sides. The blue boat piles are full of character from ageing and are held together at the top by a large chain. In the background people can be seen at the lakeside cafe.
