Blackpaper
In Zwartschrift, Henk Adriani transports the viewer into a world of raw movement and silent symbolism. Using only black on white creates a play of rhythm, tension and intuition. The thick and thin brushstrokes scratch themselves across the paper like a mysterious script, like echoes of an inner flow that cannot be captured in words.
A figure appears on the left, reminiscent of a fragile tree-like sign or a human silhouette - a counterbalance to the wild, swirling lines on the right of the image. There is a cadence to the work reminiscent of jazz: free improvisation within invisible boundaries.
Made with acrylic and ink, this work on paper radiates power, control and surrender. It is an ode to the moment itself - to the spontaneous power of the line. Black writing fits perfectly in a minimalist or modern interior and evokes a different feeling or thought with every look.
