This picture shows a black woodpecker (male) feeding its young.
To arrive at this image required a lot of patience and preparation.
At an appropriate distance and with a telephoto lens, I sat in my hide for hours waiting, as a black woodpecker only comes to feed every 1.5 to 2 hours. Then when they finally arrived you experience some fantastic moment, pure adrenaline!
The black woodpecker is a rather rare sight and our largest woodpecker but because it is very shy, it is difficult to observe.
As a nature photographer, you always have an image in mind that you definitely want to take sometime. Pictures of the black woodpecker I already had, and then of course you want more, so I went looking for a nest and found it.
Dark and black animals are difficult to photograph. This is mainly because it is difficult to get good detail in the fur or plumage. However, I managed to do so by photographing with soft light
